I have YQT-YYZ on AC, then YYZ-AUH on EY Etihad. the EY flight is actually an aeroplan booking as well. I know AC has an interline agreement with EY but im wondering if AC will be able to check my bags through and also give me a boarding pass to get through T3 security at YYZ. My layover is 9h at YYZ and EY desk opens 4h before departure leaving me 5h minus terminal change+AC delays to kill landside
Checking you bag through and getting a boarding pass are two different things.
AC & EY have interline baggage agreements so the agent doing the check-in should be able to check the bags through even on separate tickets. Does the agent know how to do it/will do it is, of course another issue. I've found a polite but firm insistance and a "I had it done recently" also helps.
For check-in if you can check in online for the EY flight that should get you through, but with a 9 hour layover, I would consider a trek airside, maybe even use an Airport hotel shuttle to get to a nearby restaurant. 9 hours is a long time in YYZ
