I had a similar experience, so I understand the frustration. I have an upcoming flight that, at the time of booking, had a 1.5 hour layover in Doha. One flight has changed so now I have 55 or 60 minutes. I am worried about the same thing happening again (being proactively bumped even if I can make it), which causes a problem for me in regards to transportation at my final destination. I called QR to ask if I could just go ahead and change my connection to the one two hours later to save myself any headache. They won't change it for free since the original flight didn't change by at least 3 hours, and the change/fare fee would be 6000 QAR. No thanks. 🤷🏻‍♀️
