I would go to the kiosk to scan the passport (no need to reprint passes if you don't want to). I am not sure if RDU is like DTW, but most Delta terminals let you print bag tags at the kiosk then go to the desk/check in counter to drop the bags off. That will take care of the verification requirement for the time being. It doesn't take long at all.
