This MNL route is super interesting and frankly exciting, if the 77W sticks around, those fares are going to have to be super competitive. Ever since NW (DL) left the J fares have been a lot higher. I remember NW and PR used to battle out MNL / CEB-West Coast US very fiercely and I bought $1200 full fare J tickets from CEB for years on NW ticket stock (ironically CEB-MNL on PR metal). I actually had legitimate need to be in the Philippines a few times a year but that NW / PR battle gave me the ability to be CO Platinum for quite a while when I wouldn't have otherwise bought business class, and therefore the EQM multiplier. Free stopovers in Tokyo on those as well which was a catalyst to how I ended up moving here a few years into it.
I'd be surprised if fares get that low again, but I bet it gets far more competitive than it has been for the last ~14-15 years since DL absorbed NW. I seem to remember UA had a similar fare back then too but was harder to route and I wasn't flying *A until CO bought UA. And yes of course I know about the GUM / ROR route that UA / CO had for years, but that was more for the military and Filipino overseas workers than general tourists / business travelers to / from the mainland. This is a whole new ballgame now, akin to NW's 747-400 service, once daily to NRT and once daily to NGO connecting to the mainland flights from each. I never flew the NGO route, but the NRT route was always pretty full when I was on it.
