The joy of re-entering the US at ATL as the destination and renting a car
I don't know if I have missed threads on this or just didn't notice, but I was amazed at the time/difficulty to get to the rental car facility after arriving on international flight last night from PUJ. Writing somewhat to vent, advice on what to do different, and also to provide a data point for future readers. As those of you that have done this before know- if you arrive at Terminal E and are not connecting onward, you walk under the tarmac out to Terminal F before joining the Immigration lines. This is a good 10-15 minute walk. Fortunately I have global entry which sped the process up a bit once I got to F but traveling companions did not. But the fun doesn't stop there- to get to the rental car facility one must take the shuttle bus back to domestic side, then get on the sky train out to rental facility. At about 9:20 last night, there were approx 75 people in line for that shuttle and we had to wait for the 5th bus to show up to make it on. This is then about a 10 min ride over. Once you are there--its pretty quick--sky train comes every couple of minutes. But what a process!
Anything to do different (other than don't rent a car if coming back internationally)?
For data points - we arrived at E35 at 8:33, I cleared global entry about 8:55-9:00, traveling companions about 9:10-9:15. In line for bus at 9:20. On bus at 9:45. On train at 9:55-10:00 and in rental car at about 10:10.
