I don't know about Delta, but AA for many years counted every mile from every source towards Million Miler statuses. I'm still kicking myself for not chasing hard for 2MM in those days to get LT Plat. I was traveling a ton, racking up lots of Marriott Travel Packages, but spreading them around to several airlines because I didn't want to be too all-in on AAdvantage.

That's some of the history of why AA 1MM is only low-tier whereas United 1MM is mid-tier. UA was always (or at least as long as I've been a member) flown miles.
