Just out of curiosity, what specific properties have you seen this summer that allowed you to select also suites? Are we talking about properties in major Scandinavian cities, or in rather small places?
My experience of doing this— to get what I thought I had booked — with US Choice points was very positive at the beginning but went sort of downhill over the years. It’s not bad, it’s just less positive than it used to be. I have years of Platinum status with Nordic Choice/Strawberry and have had some great rooms and upgrades with US Choice point bookings for Scandinavian properties, but it’s slipped over the years and varies a lot.

About booking suites using US Choice points, landed my most recent ones in the first half of the year at two properties around Stockholm, one of which is a Clarion during what was a very high demand period. I have a working theory on when and why these pop up for me at times, but I long ago learned with and from the Choice ones in Bergen — but thereafter in various Swedish properties — that what I book using US Choice points is not necessarily what they will assign at a minimum or use as a baseline for upgrading me. Part of it could be that I tend to make most of these hotel bookings for myself within the day of check-in.
