Buying two tickets by necessity inserts a fare break at the connection, so no.
However, DL actually prohibits using multi-city to ticket a fare break at a transfer point - unclear if by policy or because of sloppy website code. In this case, there are cases on DL (but not UA) where you can only book an itinerary with a ticket break even though it should otherwise be legal.
