I have another option to stay at the Only You Boutique Hotel near the Chueca neighborhood for not that much more cost. For a first time visitor, any thoughts about staying in Chueca versus Puerta del Sol?
Not sure about construction noise, I was there on a weekend. And are you sure the pool will be closed early September? I would contact the hotel, my guess is that it closes mid-late Sept. It opened mid May I believe, 1 week after my visit.
I haven't stayed in Chueca but I thought the location of the Thompson Madrid was perfect. You can easily walk to all major attractions in the city center, and you are very close to (lively!) bars & restaurants. That area is very crowded and touristy at night though. For a first time visit I would stay at the Thompson because of it's central location which makes everything walkable.
