I like (or, tolerate) this practice, and somewhat accept it in lieu of complimentary water bottles in the room. HOWEVER, it seems as if about 50/50 there are actually glass carafes in next to the hydration station, or in room for your use, defeating the purpose. This seems to have gotten slightly incrementally better since covid times.
