Huh? Umm... airlines (and hotels) change the goalposts all the time. I don't know how anyone could say that an airline "can't change the goalposts" with a straight face. Sure they can, they write the terms and conditions (which we accept) of the program. Just because you (or others) don't want them to does not mean they can't.
