In theory BA could have reduced that 30 minute delay (typically, of course, that rarely happens) and in reality holding flights for late connecting passengers causes more problems than it solves.
I would agree with the family analysis but in this case we were off first as we were in CE, arrived at a empty immigration dept passports in hands no liquids in hand luggage so prepared for quick security check and with assistance to the front of the security queue we could easily have made the flight even if it was on time.
