Quality of these large containers and what is in them is suspicious. The same supposed product does not seem to be the same from one property to another. I am ready to bring my own shampoo in a small container and add a 1.25 bottle of Suave Body Wash to my shopping when I arrive somewhere so at least I'll know what I am using... I am not clear why some here are implying the containers are refilled BY the hotel. What are they refilling them with? Is it even what the containers say they are? The way this program is designed they are supposed to be replacing the containers, not refilling them, at the hotel level... there is a tamper proof seal on the containers that would be broken if they were refilled...

However, if the containers are not refilled, very little plastic is being saved (some is... but not much...).

I am not a fan of this move but all major hotel chains are doing it and certain states like California require it by state law. This is in response to the vocal anti plastics movement (but the big bottles are still plastic... even thicker plastic...) and the anti "single use" movement.

Some people are actually leaving hotels one star reviews for still having single use containers in the bathrooms for shampoo, etc. This is where we are at. These folks are so vocal they will not stop until they get their way and everyone else just goes along with it.

Some lower end chains are using foil packets for shampoo which are not illegal in CA.

For those who do use the stuff in these large dispensers I suggest using it very liberally. That is what I have started doing when I use them. Also I ensure I never leave the container even close to empty when I depart the room. If it goes anywhere below about 1/4 full while I am there, I request a new full container (to promptly use very liberally - but not empty... maybe use half of it). Perhaps enough people doing this will give them second thoughts about this stupid program. Also if we use more of it, that also means more plastic is used...

If this was about the environment these would be formal plastic dispensers like a bathroom soap dispenser that are refilled by an industrial style thin bag of liquid and a formal dispensing unit.
