To all CX staff and management
CX / Asia Miles:
You are making a huge mistake and shooting yourself in the foot with the way that you are reacting. Instead of blocking access to this tool, perhaps you should look at simply implementing the same functions and making them available to your loyal members directly. The creator this tool has repeatedly said that he is not looking to profit monetarily from it, and to make your award search at lot more user-friendly. The way that redemption flights using AsiaMiles can currently be booked on your website is shamefully restrictive and outdated. You are unnecessarily antagonising your member base, some of whom are very profitable to you, by making the award search so difficult. So much so that you are turning paying flyers like myself away from your program and from flying CX altogether. I used to fly CX extensively in premium economy and business myself for at least five years before Covid, making Diamond within your program reliably and repeatedly. Now that CX flights are finally slowly returning to a level and scope that could be described as "almost normal", I would love to fly with you again. However, CX has lost a LOT of its competitiveness against its regional rivals (SQ,BR,NH,JL) over the past years, and you have a lot of catching up to do if you want to retain the few non-corporate loyal DM members that you have left and re-attract new ones to you. Making this tool available for public use could be an a) easy, b) effective and c) cheap publicity measure that would generate enormous goodwill and free media coverage pretty much immediately, and encourage flyers to sign up with AsiaMiles and fly CX again. You have a unique opportunity here: Someone outside of your organisation has created something for you that could be extremely popular and generate huge additional indirect revenue for you, without you having had to spend any effort or money to develop or test it. Seize it, and return to your former path to glory!
PS: I have not taken a single flight with CX this year, instead going almost exclusively with SQ and BR instead. This is how fed up I am with CX's service and offering in 2023. Even as a Diamond member, the number of award flights I can see online that is available to book, both with CX and its partners, is pathetic and pretty much insulting, especially since my wife - who is a Silver - can see the exact same availability as I. As it stands, there is nothing attractive left for me to spend my money on CX and bank my miles with AsiaMiles. However, if CX were to make its award flight search a lot more user friendly by adapting the tool which has been developed externally, this would be an enormously positive step for me and could well incentivise me to try and fly with CX again, and not just on redemption tickets, of course, but also on revenue tickets, which would allow me to regain and retain the advantages of being a CX AM high-tier member. And of course it would be even nicer if DM members had access to a better inventory than lower-tier or non-members, much like SQ do with their PPS members.
