So having had a spin through this there seems to be a lot of the usual about status Y travellers getting lounge access. Well thems the breaks I'm afraid. If someone has paid to get to status you can't just change the goalposts.
I say this as Gold Card holder who hasn't taken a J flight since I qualified.
Remember you can get Silver with 50 flights which for a frequent Domestic traveller you can get for about £2k all in Y.
If they want to alleviate lounge crowding in T5 a few thoughts:
1 Suspend Guesting into Lounges before turning away status passengers. I am sure BA will have an advanced knowledge of when guesting will be more prevalent.
2 Have the app direct passengers to the most appropriate lounge. IE more to B for Long Haul departures.
3 Get the punctuality better, let's be honest it's not just the volume of pax that's the issue more the number of 1-2 hour delays at the moment.
4 With the change in the liquids rule I wonder if there will be a drop in post security retail. If BA were looking long term this may free up T5 space, for a new lounge/temporary lounge whilst refurbs take place with less of an impact.
5 Build the lounge at 5C it's been mooted for long enough
