Hard and soft product were both among the best I've experienced in LA.
That's one I've been meaning to try. (It doesn't show up - yet - very often on my clients' preferred lists when they have me in WeHo).
Like the facade a lot.
Edition isn't one of the few luxury-labelled marques that gets much love in this sub - it's definitely skewing towards (today's version of) the younger, buzzy crowd that digs Schraeger-style design.
But like most hotel chains (old or new), usually comes down to specific property.
Even within a single city.
(In NYC, for example, really liked the Midtown Edition/TS quite a bit, while the Madison Square spot felt crowded & loud - either overbooked or undersized.)
But this new one looks very classy, especially for the strip. Great to hear it actually is!
I've hit just about every at-or-near-top-level hotel in WeHo, most multiple times. It's where a lot of my client-paid work stays happen. Some of the newer ones are quite nifty. The Pendry is fun and smartly designed/decorated. The 1hotel a nice addition as well.
There's some classics that hold up too (not the Marmont).
Sunset Tower (rooms are not fantastic), Sunset Marquis (better than Tower for me, but overpriced).
These types of places get characterized - this one's the 'starlet celeb' scene, that one's a 'rock and roll' hotel, 'all the deals' go down in this other hotel, etc etc - but a good deal of that can sometimes be mostly hooey.
The one WeHo (modern) classic i keep returning to, after trying out all the new ones, is The London.
Very similar to my seemingly-inexplicable preference for L'ermitage in BH.
Have had at least 15 or 20 stays there at the London by this point.
Similar to L'ermitage in BH, it's not the newest, hottest, fanciest Hollywood hotel anymore. It was for a sec, long ago. It's not the most opulent, won't have the McLarens and Bentleys out front (often).
It's just a really high-quality 'luxury' hotel - expensive but still somewhat sensibly priced vs more obscene prices around it - that's been delivering at the same high level for several decades.
Has a discreet, somewhat quiet vibe to it. (For the strip, anyway). British posh vibe, but a relaxed Cali version of it. Fantastic, attentive and friendly service, Easiest/breeziest, most efficient valets in L.A. Especially painless when one considers this place is
on the sunset strip.
Still the best rooftop pool in Hollywood, for my money. (and easily the biggest, that's factual. Most of the others feel like lap pools in comparison.). Views to die for. From just about every room, too.
F&B not a strong point, but not
at all 'bad'.
Even base rooms at London are
gigantic by WeHo standards. (Again, just as L'ermitage's are for BH). And in 2023, competitively priced.
15 years back, The London also boasted one of L.A.'s very best, most spectacular bathroom hard-products. Those are
finally showing (very slight) signs of wear, but are still pretty awesome.
Anyway, take a flyer on the London sometime if you have to stay in WeHo, see what u think.
