Both are realistic. Bear in mind that road infrastructure in Slovenia is mostly top notch, but in Bosnia not so much. Depending on what you want to see, you could do 1-3 days in Slovenia, and then decide what you want to see next - driving from Zagreb through Sarajevo and Mostar towards Dubrovnik will get you through Bosnia, but then you lose a chance to visit the Plitvice Lakes if that's on your list... and you also don't get a chance to drive through coastal Croatia and/or visit the islands... If it was me, I'd fly ZAG-SJJ to see Sarajevo (the road connection is really too long), and then do Mostar as a day trip once I'm in the south of Croatia.
And if you really want to visit the Balkans peninsula - start from Zagreb, go to Belgrade, drive through Serbia towards Montenegro... it all depends what you're expecting to see, and how much time you want to spend driving vs. staying somewhere.
