Luckily you can still use AMEX lounges if you have a Platinum card, irrespective of length of journey.
AA does allow you lounge access in domestic F.....if you pay for the privilege! Forgot the cost, but it's something like $40.
Regardless of class of service and flight length, the non-US partner airline programs’ Sapphires and Emeralds get access to AA lounges. UA is much the same way for non-US partner airline programs’ Star Golds. DL stopped SkyTeam ElitePlus lounge access for domestic flights even for its airline partner program elites and has been playing other games too.
AA, DL and UA provide lounge access even for domestic flights to anyone eligible for the high fee partner bank credit/charge cards that provide what is more or less a de facto lounge membership. Be happy that BA hasn’t gone down the American road or the LHR lounge zoo at T5 would be more wild.
