Hmm - looks like it won't be the new cabin - it's a 4 class 77W. So 16:30 departure on AF "old" cabin or 17:50 departure on KLM on a 787-10. AMS is easier connection, AF lounge has better food (but KLM 52 has the lovely sleep cabins). 787 is a more pleasant experience and IFE screens are better. JFK T4 security is much better than T1. Not sure how lounges compare - I assume KLM uses the SkyClub at T4.
Seems like a coin-toss.
Hello,
To answer to CBS concerning options on JFK - ARN :
First of all,
Terminal 4 over Terminal 1 should already be enough for that decision making.
Additionally :
- That 4 Class 77W has Safran Cirrus II seats in Business. Even if older, it's still a good product almost equivalent to the KLM Safran Cirrus NG.
- Yes, KLM uses SkyClub at T4. Be aware that around that time (3pm to 5pm), the lounge can be busy. The buffet and beverages options will be broader and better at the SkyClub.
- If traveling with one with mobility issues, remember that the JFK AirTrain is currently not serving Terminal 1.
To reply to the OP concerning What is the best J product from SIN to LHR via CDG/AMS on AF/KL :
There are two AF flights from SIN to CDG :
- AF257 which in January 2024 will always be operated on a 77W 58J with the Safran Cirrus II seat. (Unlikely (but not impossible) AC change due to F product onboard.)
- AF181 operating in the morning on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays. Operated on a 787 Dreamliner with Safran Cirrus II too. I'm pretty sure by January 2024 the risk to find a NEV4 on these two flight will be extremely unlikely.
KLM has a slightly more complex and ever changing schedule in/out of SIN with the continuing flights to either DPS or CGK. But on the SIN to AMS sector in January 2024 :
- KL836 (always in continuation from DPS in January)will be operated on 77W with either the new seat or the controversially good Collins Aerospace Diamond Parallel (A classic spacious good seat, lacking privacy, but very ideal if you want to keep an eye on your children). Depending on how long KLM will take to retrofit. (Probably you'll find the new cabin)
A cabin crew on AF257 once told me that SIN is always a flight with good service because the expectations are high, but not as high as on JFK and the flight is long enough to provide it comfortably without being rushed.
- Both flights will provide breakfast as a second meal (what a shame you're missing on the White Castle KLM Burger) since it's a morning arrival, so the main meal will be the decision maker if that's important to you and Air France is more likely to win this (even if KL does have good meal options too sometimes).
- Departure time is more convenient on AF.
- Transiting in AMS will be easy. Be aware that you can use the Non-Schengen lounge when arriving from outside Schengen before walking to your next gate.
- Transiting in CDG will be fairly easy. AF1580 and 1680 to LHR usually depart from gates K30/32/34/36 in the terminal 2E, requiring you to only go through security and walk to these gates. And while yes, CDG security staff is an experience of in itself that should be classified as intangible cultural heritage of the aviation world, it's gonna be fine.
- In case of missed connection or changes be aware that AF currently operates 7 flights a day to London (LHR only) while KLM operates up to 18 flights per day (both LHR and LCY) so it offers more flexibility. But LCY (and sometimes LHR) also means Embraer Farm and bus.
So... I would recommend
KLM to CBS and I would recommend
AF to the OP if flying to LHR, KL if connecting to LCY.
