Existing Star members wouldn't want Korean Air in the alliance. It would be too large and formidable a competitor to ANA, EVA and Air China particularly in terms of connections between North America and Asia. Plus if Korean Air left SkyTeam, that alliance would start to look very weak in Asia. As it is, SkyTeam has lost China Southern and has no Japanese member airline.
