Wake up to day 3 and you're in the prairies of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Flat plains, grain elevators, cows, and tiny ponds await. The most boring day of the 4-day trip. If you're going to sleep in, this is the day to do it.
Whole new crew from Winnipeg, and you'll have a new room attendant.
There is a 2 hour stop in Saskatoon, but since the station is far from the city, it's just trucks and trailers surrounding the station. Nothing to see. Go out and stretch your legs, see the train engine while it's refueling, and talk to the engineer.
Would recommend 2nd seating (later seating) for the 3rd day, especially if you're sleeping in. Dinner is in Alberta, fitting to get the beef. Would suggest going to bed early, especially if you want to get up at 5 am the next day to see the Rockies.
