767-300
Breakfast on the only daytime eastbound TATL flight out of IAD was delayed by turbulence, so the drink service didn't start until an hour and 15 minutes after takeoff.
The fruit salad was really good, both in terms of pretty plating and thoughtful ingredients. (I've never had habanero honey before but would have it as a flavoring again.) The steak was cooked to medium, which is too bad but predictable, but seasoned with just enough salt and pepper to stay interesting. A glass of red wine would have paired better with it than the champagne pictured below, but 46 seats on the high-J 767 is a lot of people for flight attendants to be walking meals over to. I should have asked for that second glass when I got the bubbly, right?
"Dessert" after that consisted of a choice of a cheese plate or a cream-filled donut, not the ice cream sundaes I'd seen mentioned in some previous report about this flight.
The snack came at the very end of the flight in what looked to me like a completely unforced error--I took the photo above 47 minutes before landing, right after this was placed on my tray in seat 3A. The ravioli was delicious but also on the chilly side, and that late serving meant there wasn't anything I could do about it. The roll, however, arrived warm, and I did get two servings of nuts that were themselves somewhat warm. Mrs. DCA writer, meanwhile, had the chicken and said it was great.
Good flight overall, and once we got past that breakfast rush hour, service was generally prompt and attentive. And have I mentioned how great it is to be able to land in London before sunset and then sleep in an actual bed?
