Like I said, I'm giving it a try for a year and seeing what it's like - I've already seen some good upgrades and the breakfast benefits (e.g. room service at PH) are very nice. But the above was also kind of a running joke with myself because regardless of chain, it seems like every stay in Germany with top-tier status I am proudly "upgraded" to a room that is exactly the same as booked, just with "deluxe" added to the name or such.
I’ve been Glob for maybe 12 years (incl. Diamond)
when we stayed at GH Berlin, we got upgraded to a nice, large suite.

in past 3 weeks:
*HR Boston Ave de Lafayette - Junior suite, comped 3 breakfasts, unlimited bottled water
*HR Dallas Reunion - the fancy 3-room suite with 2 bedrooms + parlor and 3 bathrooms, unlimited bottled water
*HR Milwaukee: Nothing but that’s the first time in 10 years not upgraded, got showered with coupons for drinks and appetizers
HR LAX - nothing
*Superior service from FD, rest/bar at these properties
