So, I've got a ticket from Toronto to Asia with a 17-hour layover at NRT in Tokyo. My flight gets in at 3pm and the next one departs at 9am the following day.
I am thinking about busting out of the airport to check out the city during the day. Never been to Japan and don't know Japanese, so I am not sure if I am biting off more than I can chew. Plan is to go back into the airport around 11pm and wait it out for my next flight.
What are the available overnight options at NRT? Thoughts?
Your plan of staying airside overnight may not work, according to below:

Few months ago (beware things might have changed), I had a similar situation. I took the Keisei train from NRT (1 stop) to Narita city, and stay in a hotel. Narita city itself has quite a bit to offer. Simply explore on foot. Next morning take the train (some hotels offer shuttle bus) back to NRT. Food options in Narita is quite comprehensive.
