I didn't add an AU when applying because I would be unlikely to keep them once the fee takes effect (plus my wife rarely travels without me, so she would gain access under my membership). I'm not sure what would happen if the card arrived after 7/23 and I tried adding one then, but the T&C I saved when applying don't mention a fee for AUs (and I'm sure they couldn't impose one given the legal notice period required).

On a different question, would the annual credits apply to existing cardholders as of 7/23? Also, any idea if the rental car protection is primary or secondary in the US? Considering whether to rent with Avis on a trip this fall now that I might get $120 off if I use this card.
