I would concede that there probably should be an announcement (or announcements) in the airport terminal that training is going on to reduce, even if not completely eliminate, concern from passengers who would otherwise see a plume of black smoke and possibly immediately think the worst not knowing it's a trainer.
landed once when they were training like this. The pilot made an announcement on approach letting us know it was training and not to be alarmed when we see it
