Some years ago I got "upgraded" on a Delta international flight from seat 11G (a window seat) to seat 10A (an exit row seat just to the right of door 2L as one would board the plane (this was before Comfort +). The exit slide assembly stuck out into my legroom, and the seat itself was basically a metal plate with a thin faux leather pad on top of it. It was extremely uncomfortable. At least I was the first one off the flight when we landed at LHR.
Now some of the seats at the emergency exits on Delta are pretty nice, such as row 13 on the A321, so the seat bottom issue might not be there now.
Interesting. I suspect, though, that if that were the issue the whole row would have those seats and be non-premium…
