The property is located in downtown Santa Rosa, in the Railroad Square Historic District. The location is convenient for:
- Anything in downtown Santa Rosa is walkable
- A block away from the SMART commuter train, which puts you one stop from the Santa Rosa Airport (STS) or a direct line to the Larkspur Ferry into SF
- Several good restaurants and coffee shops, including Grossman's NY Deli/Bakery
The
Santa Rosa Creek Trail runs directly behind the hotel, a roughly 2 mile, mostly flat, walking trail across the edge of the downtown area or into the country.
The hotel is an older build Courtyard with a Bistro concept restaurant in the lobby. There's an outdoor pool with a spacious patio area, firepit, and gazebo. Surrounding the hotel is a large, gated self-park lot for $10/day.
I recently had a one night weekend stay. The stay was fine. Here are my impressions:
First of all, you probably do
not want to be upgraded! There are larger rooms with balconies, which the front desk was willing to offer me, but they warned me that these rooms are very loud. They face the railroad tracks and the balcony doors are
not sound proofed. In fact, there are many unhappy reports of this on public review sites.
There is a wing of accessible rooms behind the front desk, away from the public areas of the lobby. The front desk suggested one of these rooms as the quietest on the property. So I took one of those instead. The room was, indeed, quiet, but the bathroom was not great. It was huge but got soaking wet from the open side of the shower, and had only one tiny shelf for toiletries. No vanity at all. Other complaint about the room is that the pillows were thin and there weren't many of them.
Positives- Front desk proactive about making sure I had a quiet room and understanding upgrade options
- Location good for anything in Santa Rosa itself
- Everyone friendly and happy to honor requests
Negatives- Room itself kind of underwhelming, for reasons noted above. Not the best night of sleep and tough to get ready in the morning. Maybe the best compromise is a regular room without a balcony but not accessible
- Santa Rosa itself is a quiet town, without much going on, so it's going to be a drive to get to wineries, etc.
- It llooked like there were frequent waits for the elevators. There were only two and it seemed like housekeeping was using one of them during the day.
Overall, I would return if I needed to be in town again. It was an acceptable stay with employees doing their best to make it comfortable.
