Our guide (Albert) is very knowledgeable and once he found out my interest in birds, he has been stopping and pointing out every single bird, identifying it, and showing it in a book he has (Birds of East Africa).
You are assigned a guide for your entire trip. Every day you decide what your focus for that day is for the game drive(s). I, like every person here, want to see the migration. I think I will miss it as it is a few days away but Albert is in constant touch with folks who have info and suggested we drive to that area to see if we get lucky (happens) - while seeing all other animals along the way.
Beyond that, I have told him things like “I would like to see elephants up close”, “I would love to see zebras running”, etc etc. Silly stuff like that and while he cannot make Zebras run, he has taken us to areas where such things are possible.
he has pointed out every little thing and explained stuff about it. He has kept my 16 yr old completely engaged throughout the 3 days worth of game drives with more to go. Oh and Albert has been a guide for 16 yrs!
we made friends with a couple whose guide, Sophie, is also extremely knowledgeable and has been a guide for a very long time.
The Safari vehicles are top notch!
So while I am sure that the Trip Advisor reviewer had an experience not to his liking, I can safely say that the two data points I have refute that reviewer’s claim, especially when it comes to birds.
Attaching a few photos of the birds we saw yesterday. We saw at least a couple of dozen types of birds over two days. Our guide goes out of his way to stop the vehicle, point out any birds there, give its name, show it in the book he has, etc.
hope this helps.
