I wondered the same before... Had a Intermediate Electric Elite (C4) in MIA, the board had my name with a specific bay number, which I ignored and took a car from the PC aisle. The hertz employee at the ramp just said remarked "oh, you changed cars" and that was the end of it....
But your situation scared me a little, as I will be renting in LAX in September and have Intermediate Electric Elite (C4) booked again, as it was 50% cheaper than the next cheapest type...
