Completed the stay for 3 nights, had two rooms a regular king and a family king. I booked one with 3 FN certificates from Surpass and regular Amex card sign up, and one on points at 90,000 per night, then upgraded it to family king for 85 EUR per night to accommodate 3 in a room (this room type can fit 4, king bed plus a sleeper sofa). The hotel released standard availability for all the weekends in summer some time in early June, so there were many nights available at standard redemption rate all throughout the summer. I believe I could have gotten the upgrade if I waited till day of check in but was not willing to gamble as we were travelling as a family of 5 and paid rates were over $600 per night.

All in all this was a great stay. As a Gold I got all 5 breakfast buffets covered (otherwise 28 EUR pp), the buffet is very very good and includes cooked to order eggs if you wish. Variety and quality was very good. We also got a free bike rental and used to go to town, around the lake and took a funicular up the mountain and hiked to the lighthouse. Rooftop pool and a a restaurant were great, as expected restaurant is quite pricey but the view is worth it for one dinner or drinks.

Como is at the very tip of the lake so this location as not as central as frequently recommended Menaggio, Bellagio or Varenna. But we used a car and ferry to get to other towns and don't think we were at a great disadvantage. There is a lido (lake beach) nearby by villa Olmo but we did not try and enjoyed the rooftop pool instead. Train station is nearby if you want to hop on for a day trip. As we had a car, we headed to Switzerland for one of the days and had fun at the little Switzerland park and Lugano.

Tip: to avoid paying 26 EUR for parking, you can park in a parking lot by the park across from the hotel. I think price depends on the day, but we kept feeding the meter about 3 EUR per day and it would give us a ticket till 8 am the next morning at a time. Parking is free after 7 pm so if you do it after 7 pm it will automatically print parking from 8 am of next day till 8 am of the day after.
