The situation is embarrassing indeed.
But there's probably no need to panic:
- unless I'm mistaken, there are no seriously sick guests to date;
- the hotel is monitored by the health authorities, who talk about low risks
It is estimated that there are between 8,000 and 18,000 cases of legionellosis each year in the United States. However, the true incidence is unknown because not all cases are diagnosed and/or reported.
The fact remains that, for the most fragile people (The risk factors for this disease are age over 50, male, smoking, diabetes, cancer or any haemopathy, corticosteroid or immunosuppressive therapy, a history of heavy alcohol consumption, lung disease, immunosuppression, chronic respiratory or kidney disease) should probably avoid staying at the hotel before the situation returns back to normal.
