Someone I know flew recently from AMS to ATH (obviously not on LH) for a cruise and their luggage did not arrive with them. They went shopping in Athens and after a strongly-worded email the luggage was delivered a week later to the last but one port of call. They handed the luggage back to the same airline the following day to fly back to AMS.
