I am trying to use Google flights to find a flight for just over $50. Using Google flights explore, I can seem to search without a "Where From" location. Am I searching properly if my only criteria is price and United as the carrier?

Correct, BE I meant Basic Economy. Google Flights will generally show you Basic Economy fares but you get the hang of about how much more standard economy fares are pretty easily and look for those. If my target price was $125 then I was looking for GF fares around $100 or slightly under. It's not a 100% guarantee, but it's fairly close in a lot of markets. My $205 fare was slightly more challenging but didn't take me more than 10 mins of trial and error to find one.
