Sooo, may I please ask where we can find those few good street stalls? <3
First of all know that the mayor's office (Cuauhtemoc) that encompasses all of Centro Historico, Roma/Condesa and all the areas nearby approve some vendors and provide permanent electric utilities to them, so they are more apt to be more hygienic, but doesn't mean the others aren't but they don't want to lose their authorization. Generally they will have the name Cuauhtemoc stamped on stall or some type of sign with the name. Not saying that all the other vendors are not any good, but at least they can control them.
I like to check out how clean a place is before I eat there, and if it's on the street it probably won't be as clean as a sit-down fancy restaurant. But, I've never gotten sick from street food here but did get sick from eating in a restaurant when I first arrived, all because of salad (of course).
These are some of the street stalls/businesses I like to go to that are in walking distance, 30 minutes or less from Condesa/Roma, in no particular order:
*Taqueria El Cunado MY BEST SPOT for good food that definitely fills me up- it sets outside PARQUE TOLSA before you get to Balderas Metro Look it up on Google Maps....it's the one with the big red awning. I like the bistec with napoles /onions with fries on the side. It's less than 70 pesos for two beef two with fries. And the beef is more tender than other vendors. They make everything on the spot and have 3 industrial size grills. They don't highly season everything so add salt/salsa if necessary. If you want a good vibe go on a Saturday when all the "hot wheel" vendors are out. It's packed. It's not located in Condesa but just walk east on Av Chapultepec about 30 minutes and when you get to 7-Eleven make a left and the food vendors will be to your right where you'll see a large red tent/awning.
*Taco Stall on Av Merida - My second best stall.... directly in front of "Tierra Garat" And the couple stands nearby at that same corner. There's always lines of people at any of them. The taco stand with the two guys in the approved stall has the best tasting tacos but they are really small. I bring a Tupperware bowl and have them fill it up. They're really good with the green sauce (not too hot) and add some lime and they're delicious.
*Caldos de Galliina - on Puebla (Mainly Soups/Stews)
*Variety of Red Tents set up at Insurgentes and Av Alvaro. Obregon
*Tianguis Food stalls set up on Av Merida and Alvaro Obregen on FRIDAYS during the day
*Tianguis Food stalls around Centro Medico Metro
AND of course I have to mention a popular place called Taqueria Orinoco that always has a long line that has several locations in the touristy areas in town. I think the only good thing about this place is if you're out drinking at a nearby bar they will still be open at 5:00am😁 Otherwise not worth the trip, in my opinion.
But, if you really want to try some good restaurants I would recommend checking out that video I posted or other similar ones on the internet. You won't find most of them in the touristy areas though. Enjoy your stay.
*Oh, and if you like rotisserie Chicken go to Pollos Ray😋
