Check to see what the fares are from NYC (EWR & JFK) and how much an add-on ticket would be ATL-NYC.
If you're locked-in to Delta, it may or may not be less doing it that way.
But pricing from NYC airports can often find some unusual options. Of course returning from VCE adds yet another element to the options.
