If you've been following the points travel blog scene you've probably come across a story on this property previously, reported by me on my friend's stay regarding them refusing breakfast benefits for platinum elites (and above). As this property does not have a lounge they need to provide complimentary continental breakfast at the minimum or the member can choose the 750 points. Obviously any sane Bonvoy Elite would not willingly choose the 750 points.
As I also have a stay coming up at this hotel I reached out to the hotel armed and ready for the confrontation, and lo and behold they refused to honour breakfast bennies for me as well, and said they'd offer 750 points instead. I pointed them to 4.3.c.iii and 4.3.c.iv of the Elite Benefits T&C, specifically the $100 USD compensation which I should be rightfully able to claim as I do not want pennies worth of points.
Their Director of Front Office reached out to me regarding the matter and pointed out that because the restaurant is not owned by the hotel (it's owned by the same parent company that owns the hotel), they're in a special consideration to Marriott Bonvoy and are exempt from providing the $100 USD compensation guarantee. I'll also note that you can charge restaurant bill to the room, and when you request room service it is provided by that very same restaurant. While they say they're willing to provide the compensation at the usual horrid hotel exchange rate but as a room credit, I'd much rather they just give it to me in cash or better yet, just honour the damn breakfast benefit.
This is the first time hearing about a property being exempt from the compensation guarantee... Can anyone (particularly the Marriott Bonvoy Champions/Lurkers) confirm?
