You don't even have to change the seat pitch - just add a couple of amenities.
Preboards can choose any seat in the main cabin; A1-15 or A1-30 get first crack at the Business Select seats.
I like the way you put main cabin in quotes. At least you are acknowledging that this would just be a sham to try to get around the law.
If a flight holds 175 and it's booked full, what happens when A1-30 choose the windows and aisles in the first 5 rows along with 10 of the exit row seats? And then A31-C45 choose every single empty seat except for the 10 middles in the first 5 rows? Where are C46-55 going to sit? In those middle seats in the first 5 rows? Because it's open seating?
