I'm not defending AC. I don't know why they do what they do. But I do know it's not uncommon to see a flight cancellation replaced by another flight with a four digit flight number departing at the same time.
Don't typically see that on other carriers. When they change the operating aircraft, they tend to leave the flight number the same.
Happened today on YYZ-YVR:
It appears the cancelled flight was scheduled on the same fin as the replacement flight C-GKUH. Interesting. There's obviously a logical reason behind it. Curious as tot he why.
