That's what I assumed you were asking, and that's what I tried (and apparently failed) to answer.

My experience is from pre-Covid, but I have no reason to believe that the situation has changed. When I bought points as part of a P+C reservation, the vendor was not IHG and the purchase did not code as travel. It coded as Shopping or something similar and earned the minimum number of points per dollar that was offered on the card. (I phrase it that way because I don't recall how many points per dollar it earned, but it was the minimum.) Unless IHG has started selling points itself for P+C stays or Shopping (or whatever the merchant category was) has become a bonus category, then I would be quite surprised if there was any category bonus.
