First, there is another open thread around this so admins should merge.
I think there have been many "improvements" to AI in the last 16 months. Obviously from a customer perspective AI's biggest problems are it's image and it's super dated and dirty/neglected cabin & hard product. That's not going to change soon so most people aren't going to happy with them right away.
Here are some of the big changes that they've done so far -
- Reactivated most of the fleet that was in the maintenance and complete disrepair for years
- Added 6 new A350s - coming in this year
- Added 11 new temporary aircraft DL, EY...
- Added many new routes to the US and EU
- Improved quality and quantity of food across the board... improved offerings including small things like sparkling water & Himalaya in premium cabins to condiments to general taste - while many disagree with me on this... personally I've felt this change. Including at the AI DEL lounges (int & dom). Things are better. Not exponentially, but noticeably.
- New amenity kits & PJs from Tumi
- On time performance. They are giving 6E a run for their money and they have matched or out performed them in some of the recent months. That's saying something
- And "some time in the near or distant future" investment commitments made - almost 1000 new planes over the next 10-15 years. $400m in long haul refurbs from 2024 and $200m in new IT
I wouldn't discount all of this as nothing. But yeah unless there are new cabins - hard to see any changes in perception about AI.
