The IC is a nice enough place, and clearly has its fans. But it's way too small to be a stand-alone resort, and its isolation might be difficult to deal with once the initial charm has worn off.
You might try a different style of isolation on the other side of Cascais, with a night or two at magnificent Guincho beach. Spectacular views and no railway line! The Fortaleza do Guincho is splendid and hosts a Michelin restaurant, while the less expensive Estalagem Muchaxo next door enjoys the same dramatic views.
The other drawback about the Intercontinental which no one mentions is the train running down the bottom of the property. It’s the Cascais to Lisbon line and has about 2 or 3 rotations per hour. In winter you can’t hear it but in summer you can.
