Yes this sometimes happen as trying to rebook irrops. However, a verbal request should correct the seating issue. The agents know how to handle this -- its the computer that messes up.
Every United agent we told seemed baffled by the problem. It ended up costing us our vacation, as we could never get hold of an agent who could fix it (this happened during last week's chaos at EWR). And the 30k miles Kirby is promising isn't anywhere near enough to compensate for it!
