Yeah, it seems a bit of a fail when they mention specific flights/trips and then no dice. (It does say "pending availability" in the fine print.)
My flight for tomorrow just cleared off the waitlist today, with 3 more F seats available--the return on Saturday cleared at time of booking. UA had included it in the STW email they sent me, but checking right away and then every couple of days afterward, I never had the option to actually STW. I would have happily contributed an extra otherwise-wasted 50 PP. At least the waitlist cleared on its own at T-36 or so.
