If you check your bag in for a flight and then have your flight cancelled whilst you are in the lounge. If your bags go missing and you don’t actually get to your destination (because in our case the next two flights were also cancelled including the next day), Amex Platinum insurance (AXA) will deem that your trip didn’t take place so therefore you have no insurance for the missing/delayed bags.

Amex told me they believed we would be insured whereas AXA have refused the claim.

Obviously you can still claim through BA but I just thought I’d call this situation out in case anyone thinks their AXA insurance would cover them.

Amex told me the trip starts when you get your boarding cards and go through security. AXA say it’s only if you reach your destination.
That just seems wrong, that's the whole point of TI. When you cancel beforehand due to a medical issue for example with the correct documentation etc. they pay out (this happened when Mrs FW had a stroke).

I'd escalate / complain or raise a case with the ombudsman.
