Actually, it does hurt to ask. Frivolous requests like this are part of the reason that it’s now nearly impossible to get them to follow the actual, posted rules.

Your ticket was not eligible for waitlisting. The fact that you bamboozled an agent into doing it for you does not change that fact (but the agent may face discipline for breaking policy). Award waitlists must be the same type of ticket — in other words, you must have an X/XN “saver” ticket to waitlsit for I/IN “saver” business. That’s why the fare difference was only 10K — because you shouldn’t have been able to waitlist at all.
