It truly is worse than either of those chains. Both Candlewood and Extended Stay have real beds with a relatively thick mattress atop a foundation. Another distinction between Woodspring and the other two: despite its status as an extended stay hotel, Woodspring doesn't offer any cutlery, plates, glasses, cups, or pots and pans; instead, cheaper versions of all of those are offered as a package that costs extra. Candlewood and Extended Stay stock those in every room. Fortunately, I was aware of this policy before I stayed and brought some basics so I didn't have to pay.
Woodsprings seem to do good business, but I think Choice has wisely decided to keep this chain separate from the rest of their operations. As poor as Rodeway or Econo Lodge can be, I still think they're generally better than Woodspring.
