Checked bags/connection protection on separate PNRs
We are flying AKL-ORD in January. We were planning on spending a couple of days on the South Island and were thinking of booking CHC-AKL or ZQN-AKL earlier in the day, also on NZ, with a 3+ hr connection at AKL.

Will Air NZ check bags through to final destination on two Air NZ tickets/PNRs? If the domestic leg gets delayed or cancelled and we misconnect, will Air NZ be helpful?
