Because rental car companies will not let an opportunity to make a buck slip by.
2 years ago I rented a car from Avis in Tivat, Montenegro, but my final destination was LJU.
Montenegro - Slovenia had a massive fee of 800 euros or so, so I dropped the car at TIV when I was done and took a 100 euros taxi to DBV. DBV-LJU fee was about 200,
The guy in TIV actuallly wanted me to drive a Croatian car back to DBV with no fee and a very cheap day rate, but I already had the taxi waiting.
So it seems it might work sometimes - just wondering if others were able to get that done.
Right, but you can't count on circumstances such as these. And since there's no easily replicable way to identify such an opportunity, the only way you'll ever find out is in person. By which point it might be too late or too expensive to make alternate arrangements.
