I drove into the city about a month ago and was surprised to see so few tourists around the pier and near the areas around Chinatown and the adjacent Italian district. I did not sense any discomfort walking around but maybe that's just me. I did not go into the area where this hotel is but knowing the area it may not be safe (i think its always been a bit sketchy even before covid). With 2 kids & want to do the family routine, consider HR near the Ferry Building (the lounge was nice but not sure if is open) or the Hyatt Centric Fisherman's Wharf.
